Background
The costs for nursery school or school fee including school uniform, material such as books and stationary as well as one meal a day for one child are 240 Euros (appr. 4.880 Ethiopian Birr) p.a.
Kinderhaus ADDIS e.V. – The German-Ethiopian Initiative was founded by eight women as an NGO on 20 November 2001 in Berlin. Through voluntary work we have been able to set up a network of donors in Germany and Ethiopia.
Based on this we are aiming for a long-term work in Addis Ababa. To be able to do this, we need your help!

Progress
During 2004 we got to know the work of the Ethiopian NGO “Integrated Holistic Approach-Urban Development Project” (IHA-UDP) and decided to start a cooperation with them. Since the beginning of the school term 2005/2006 Kinderhaus ADDIS e.v. is financing the nursery school or public school for 30 children taking part in the project of IHA-UDP. The children remain in their families who are also getting support from IHA-UDP in their everyday lives. These children will be supported until they finish school.
„Founded and coordinated by Dr. Jember Teferra, IHA-UDP discontinued its work in Kirkos subcity of Addis Ababa as planned, at the end of 2012. After 23 years of work based on their unique holistic approach to substainable urban development, three IHA-UDP projects areas were given over to the self-governing communities of Addis Hiwot Integrated Sustainability Development Organization (AHISDO); and Community Based Integrated Sustainable Development Organization (CBISPO). Both IHA-UDP Organizations received approval from the Ethiopian Charities and Societies Agency to open their own accounts with the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia. They may now work independently and receive donations from abroad. Actually our partner is AHISDO!
From 1989 to 2012, IHA-UDP addressed the needs of over 53,000 families living in extreme poverty, offering them self-respect and motivation to take control over their lives. Kinderhaus ADDIS e.V. sponsored children live in these families.”
